Windsor-Essex needs a modern hospitals system.

WE CAN’T WAIT ANY LONGER.

Windsor-Essex’s acute care hospital infrastructure and mental health systems are reaching the end of its useful life. The facilities are obsolete, at capacity, and do not meet today’s standards.

Join our campaign to deliver a modern hospitals system.

WE NEED A NEW & MODERN HOSPITALs SYSTEM

Windsor-Essex’s acute care hospital infrastructure is nearing the end of its useful life. The current facilities are outdated, undersized, and can’t accommodate patient needs.

Medical floors and emergency departments fall below provincial standards – and cramped patient rooms and crowded hallways mean that effective infection control is difficult to achieve.

Most buildings are more than 50 years old – and can no longer be retrofitted or renovated to meet modern standards.

WE can’t wait for a new hospital system.

A HOSPITALs SYSTEM FOR GENERATIONS TO COME

From a new state-of-the-art acute care hospital to a new centre of Mental Health Excellence, there’s an ambitious plan for a modern Windsor-Essex hospitals system.

A new hospitals system will mean that patients will no longer need to be transported by ambulance between campuses for urgent and acute care, a real regional trauma centre with air ambulance capability, at least 80% private rooms to facilitate modern infection control, and the infrastructure to support high-tech imaging and diagnostic technology that improves patient care and outcomes.

A New Single Site Acute Care Hospital The planned 10-story, 1.6 million sq. ft. state-of-the-art facility will be 30% larger than the two current facilities combined. Featuring 500+ beds with room to expand, at least 80% of the rooms will be private. The site will support Emergency / Trauma Care, Cancer Centre, Obstetrics & Paediatrics, Regional Cardiac services, Critical Care, Surgical Services, and Outpatient clinics. It will fully support air ambulance service. WRH Metropolitan Campus (1995 Lens Avenue) The advanced age and deterioration of this facility make it cost prohibitive for Windsor Regional Hospital to redevelop as a healthcare facility. The Metropolitan campus will continue to serve patients until a new acute care hospital is constructed and opened. Once construction of new facilities is completed, the property will be decomissioned and made available for new/alternative development. WRH Ouellette Campus (1030 Ouellette Ave) Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare will return to these facilities after they have been redeveloped to support outpatient mental health care. Redevelopment of the site will also accommodate Urgent Care / Satellite Emergency facilities, as well as ambulatory care, day services, diagnostic imaging, primary care services, a laboratory, and a pharmacy. HDGH Tayfour Campus (1453 Prince Road) Hôtel-Dieu Grace Healthcare will remain on site as the campus is substantially redeveloped to support acute mental health care. The redeveloped facility will support a 60-bed acute mental health care wing, and become a new Centre of Mental Health Excellence in the province. The facilities will also feature an expansion of diagnostic imaging services, as well as new dailysis services and care.
